 We knew that her thumb sucking had been a problem and had decreased her participation in class. We knew it had hindered her learning to a point, but it wasn't until we stood in the hallway at her new school in Spain when the teacher in the class room with her came out in a huff and exasperated to tell the administrator. "There is no way we can put her in Second grade with those reading skills, and our first grade is full."

Ugh! That was tough. They put her in second grade and we worked tirelessly with the reading skills, but not much came of it. She didn't care for it and wouldn't participate. No bribe seemed to work. We were giving up hope. It was going to be an up hill battle for the next 10-11 years of school.

In a desperate attempt to get some help we wrote the third grade teacher at the new school (after Spain) and explained all the ups and downs and moves and trials. She took a special interest. She had Paige tested and found no learning disabilities. She set in and worked with Paige on her own time a lot and sent home special work for Paige and eventually got her to grade level.

It was amazing and we couldn't have thanked her more. She is like a part of our family now because we were hopeless and she with the true spirit of a real teacher - really taught!

A few years after having this amazing teacher, things slid again. The individualized attention wasn't as present in the higher grades and Paige seemed to be sinking once again and we took her to KUMON for extra help. I will tell you what, SHE HATED IT! it was extra work and it was more time spent in a school environment. I would tell anyone it was the best thing we could have done for her. Her confidence in her school worked soared. She only took math help from them, but it affected everything.


Its a year later and another move, its effort on her own and working at the things she isn't good at and trying hard everyday. It's a year after we left Kumon and tonight...

She was inducted into 

"National Junior Honor Society"
