Lunching with the ladies

ME: I need to plan on working on my Italian home work all day Tuesday, I have not put in enough time and I have class on Wednesday.

My friend: Want to go to Sorrento for lunch Tuesday?

Me : YES!

Love it when musicians come to play just to make my sight seeing experience complete!

Uhm.. State side girl friends, remember how how the stakes have been set the next time you invite me to lunch!

What is lunch without a little shopping?

Caught an artist hard at work

And his art

Hey ladies, want to do lunch with me soon?

Gelato Festival

It was the evening of May 21st. and Paige had asked us to surprise her with something fun for her birthday. Lucky for us Naples was hosting a gelato fest. 13 chosen gelato masters came to compete for our taste buds and the winner will go on to a competition with Gelato masters from all over the country.

So this is how it works, you buy a ticket, and each vendor crosses off their number once they have given you a mini cone of the flavor they have brought to the competition.
I know it says 14, but there were only 13 (number 8 wasn't there)

Each station you stop at has their number well marked and points out to you that you should remember that number in order to vote properly (for them)

This was the flavor that Dan voted for. It didn't have a name but ingredients listed. They seemed like ingredients for custard to me. Vanilla custard.

This is the first one we tasted and the one the kids and I voted for. Lemon gelato with lemon chocolate chunks and lemon sponge cake! YUM!

This stand had a few flavors they entered. all cuban inspired. To include some with tobacco flavor- yuck!

Nutella gelato- ok... almost the same thing as frozen Nutella. So thick and rich.

Black cherry Vanilla and almonds

Mango cream cookie

Capaccino - dad ate them all - yuck

cookies the original

Buffalo milk with lemon and walnuts

some strange rolled up ice cream with caramel flavor

The over all loser according to the Strode family

The white is Buffala formagio gelato, The green is basilica , the red is pomadoro

Yes, caprese ice cream. Maybe if you like salty cheese ice-cream and frozen tomato soup...

14 years (and no more counting)

Paige is a fan of all Miyazaki movies. If you do not know who or what that is, you may not recognize any of the references here at her party, like her friends all wearing leaves on their heads and so forth!
Miyazaki is a Japanese animator so this party had a very Japanese over all feel to it!

She requested just ice cream, so I made it cake shaped!

"All my many friends"

Loud and weird just like she likes it! 14 years have flown by... amazing!

She requested a 3D pen (which I think is silly) and she was happy to get it!

Sandwich sushi since she doesn't like real sushi

Nice friends willing to wear leaves on their heads!

So many great presents !

Happiest 14th Paige! We are so glad we have you!

Cucinare - to cook

Mi Piace Cucinare, Mi piace mangiare .......

In proper fashion  our Italian class that met up for a language / cooking lesson  were treated with pastries and caffe

In Italy there is no such thing as friends together in la mattina with out pastries and caffe
Before we began cooking we were introduced to this machine that I can not figure out why we do not have in the united states. It has a memory chip with over 5k recipes and you choose on the screen and it will walk you through what to put in it for ice cream, or soup, or rice, or whatever, then you press go and it finishes it for you....

These are some of my cute class mates! EMI and Mizue

Anna gave me her rolling pin.

Sharron, Leigh, and Laren are also class mates and here is a bunch of pasta ready to become ravioli

 We eat  - Mangiamo
Fresh made fetticini from our ravioli scraps

Bruschetta  molto buona

Spinach and ricotta ravioli with a butter and fresh sage sauce- Mamma mia!
